Houston, TX - Good to be home

Miles Driven: 4138 miles

After staying in Austin for a few days, Chris and I ventured down to San Antonio on Monday to play The Westin La Cantera Palmer Course. We wanted to scout out the course before Brad showed up on Tuesday so we would have an advantage. However, that didn't really help because the course was just not fair. You have to hit a perfect shot every on the tee and fairway or else the ball will get lost in the brush. The greens were even worse. We couldn't get use to it because it was not rolling true. Any putts against the grain was so unpredictable that it would even turn uphill. It was really a beautiful course, but I don't think I would go play it again.

After my round with Brad on Tuesday, we drove from San Antonio to Houston. Houston has always been home for me. I grew up in the area and still have lots of friends and family here. The cost of living here is much lower than in San Francisco and the pace of life is also slower. It's Texas. Full of friendly people and hot/humid weather. We certainly experienced the hot and humid weather on Wednesday. Brad had planned out this entire week of golf and we played 3 beautiful course in Houston. Woodforest  at Fish Creek, Blackhouse Golf Club South, and Cypresswood - Tradition Course. I shot an 88 (48/40) at Woodforest with a mixture of sweat and sunblock in my eyes while I was trying to putt. You know it's hot and humid when you look down at the ball and the sweat from your face is dripping on your sunglasses. The other courses were beautiful but I didn't shot too well and the wind conditions were about 20mph on each of the days.

Brad really took it to me with the skins games we were playing. We played $3 per hole with carry overs plus $5 greenies on par 3's. On the side, we also payout $20 for birdies, $100 for eagles, and $500 for hole in ones. Even though I shot an 88 and won by 6 skins at Woodforest, I still owed Brad $2 because he got a birdie on a hole. The worst part is he took his mulligan on that hole, asked for the ball in my pocket, got the birdie (I shot par on that hole), and gave the ball back to me. Talk about insult to injury....*#^$@&(**^^$.... =)

Playing 6 straight days of golf is not my definition of fun. My body is sore and there's a point in the game where my game declined. After shooting that 88 at Woodforest, my body just couldn't pull it together. It was screaming lots of ben-gay, tylenol, and a deep tissue massage. I think I'm gonna take a LONG break from golf and not play for about 1 week so my body can have a rest. Besides, I'm in Houston and there are a lot of people to see while I'm here before I head to New Orleans to meet up with my friend Scott. Meanwhile, I may have some decisions to make soon about continuing the trip or to head back. It'll be good to discuss this with my friends and family.
